Scrap Metal Review

Posted by Encroyable.com | Xbox Live | Posted on March 9th, 2010

If a modernized and more violent R.C. Pro-Am sounds like a good time to you, take Scrap Metal for a test drive. While not really a remote-controlled car racer, the bird’s-eye view you get of the action makes it feel like you’re driving miniature vehicles. The emphasis here is on arcade thrills instead of realistic simulations and there is definitely fun to be had despite some control issues and a bland art style.

Resident Evil 5: Desperate Escape Review

Posted by Encroyable.com | Xbox Live | Posted on March 4th, 2010

While the previous expansion was in many ways a throwback to the original PlayStation Resident Evil titles — set in an uncannily-familiar mansion with a focus on puzzle-solving in lieu of combat — Desperate Escape sticks to the Resident Evil 5 formula: limited ammo, unlimited zombies (or “near-zombies”) and some cinematic explosions thrown in for good measure.

Space Ark Test Drive

Posted by Encroyable.com | Xbox Live | Posted on March 4th, 2010

We’ve been following Space Ark for a while and this morning we finally got to take it for a spin. This is an upcoming Xbox Live Arcade game that aims to provide an old school arcade experience. To be specific, developer Strawdog Studios says it is trying to recreate the feel of those “weird Japanese arcade games of the ’80s.” We can confirm that Space Ark is a fun, unique take on Arkanoid-style block-breakers.

IGF-Nominated Limbo Headed to XBLA

Posted by Encroyable.com | Xbox Live | Posted on March 2nd, 2010

Today developer Playdead revealed to IGN that its first game, Limbo, is headed for IGN. No, it’s not a Natal version of the Limbo dance. Rather, this is a moody puzzle platformer with a striking black and white art style. Limbo is nominated for both Art and Technical Excellence at this year’s Independent Games Festival.

Toy Soldiers Review

Posted by Encroyable.com | Xbox Live | Posted on March 1st, 2010

Toy Soldiers is a tower defense game, although none of its promotional materials contain either of those words. This was probably a calculated decision, as the tower defense genre is overcrowded with copycat clones and mediocre me-toos. But for classification purposes, Toy Soldiers is tower defense. It’s also one of the good tower defense games, so fans of the genre will want to check it out (there are tower defense fans out there, right?).

Worms 2 Getting Battle Pack DLC

Posted by Encroyable.com | Xbox Live | Posted on March 1st, 2010

There are two Worms games available on Xbox Live Arcade, and both have been well-received by strategy gamers. Today on its Facebook page developer Team17 announced a downloadable Battle Pack is on the way for Worms 2: Armageddon. An officially official press release is apparently on the way, but for now Team17 will only say that the Battle Pack will include “new missions, weapons, features, game modes, 10 new Forts, more voices, new personalization items, and much more…”

First Details: Comic Jumper

Posted by Encroyable.com | Xbox Live | Posted on February 25th, 2010

Last year fresh new developer Twisted Pixel delivered two great games to Xbox Live Arcade: The Maw and ‘Splosion Man. For its next trick, the studio is prepping what it calls a “comedy shooter” named Comic Jumper. A 2D action game taking place in comic books, we are immediately reminded of the SEGA Genesis title Comix Zone. Comic Jumper apparently takes more inspiration from games like Contra and Gunstar Heroes, though. It was unveiled with a trailer at the Penny Arcade Expo last summer, but we haven’t heard much about Comic Jumper since then. Today, Twisted Pixel is here to change that.

Greed Corp. Review

Posted by Encroyable.com | Xbox Live | Posted on February 24th, 2010

In the style of heady German board games like Carcassone and Catan comes Greed Corp., a fascinating strategy game taking place in a new fantasy world called Mistbound. There is a major difference, though — whereas Carcassonne and Catan are about building and cooperating, Greed Corp. is about beautiful destruction. This is a highly polished first effort from W!Games and is a welcome addition to Xbox Live Arcade.

Lazy Raiders Review

Posted by Encroyable.com | Xbox Live | Posted on February 22nd, 2010

You know who is in great shape? Lara Croft. She works hard for her money, exerting herself every step of the way on her tomb raiding adventures. The result: a rockin’ body. Dr. Diggabone, star of Lazy Raiders, on the other hand can’t be arsed to do any spelunking himself. If he’s going to find the 16 lost relics, you’re going to have to do all the work.

Super Meat Boy Coming to XBLA

Posted by Encroyable.com | Xbox Live | Posted on February 22nd, 2010

The old school platformer Super Meat Boy has been one of our most anticipated WiiWare games since we played it last year. Players control the titular bag of bloody gore through stage after stage of deadly challenges like meat grinders and buzz saws, all in name of love. Super Meat Boy is nominated for the Grand Prize at this year’s Independent Game Festival, so that should give you some sense of its quality.
